Cabinet, Parliament Next as 2030 Resolution Advances
ZANU PF’s plan to amend Zimbabwe’s Constitution to extend President Mnangagwa’s term to 2030 is nearing completion. The party’s Secretary for Legal Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi, says principles of the amendment will go to Cabinet in February, then to Parliament.
Ziyambi, also Justice Minister, says the process is constitutional and lawful. “Only the Bible is immune to amendment,” he said. He expects resistance but notes the Constitution allows changes.
He dismissed claims the resolution was influenced by the President, saying it’s a collective party position. Ziyambi added that Mnangagwa would be obliged to assent to the amendment once lawfully passed.
ZANU PF members in Mashonaland West were urged to remain united and disciplined. The province is ready for Cell Verification Day and confident of winning Chegutu Ward 1’s February 21 by-election.
