Transporter allegedly flees after confession in Chiredzi ECD learner death

THE transporter linked to last week’s tragic death of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) learner at Chiredzi Government Primary School has allegedly fled after reportedly leaving behind a confession letter detailing how the incident occurred.

According to sources, the transporter, Lovemore Muchono who was responsible for taking the child to and from school, is said to have indicated in the letter that four-year-old Steadfast Makondo suffocated in his vehicle on Tuesday last week after allegedly being left inside with the windows closed.

The alleged confession letter, now reportedly in the possession of local police, states that the child did not disembark from the vehicle upon arrival at school in the morning.

It is further alleged that the transporter then proceeded to his workplace, unaware that the child remained in the vehicle.

After parking the car with the windows closed, he reportedly continued with his duties and only discovered the situation during his lunch break.

The child’s body was discovered on Wednesday morning in a bushy area near the town.

Police are yet to issue an official statement on the matter. ZBC
