UK-Based Nurse Found Dead in Harare Hotel Room Shortly After Arrival
A 35-year-old Zimbabwean nurse based in the United Kingdom was found dead in a Harare hotel room on Monday.
Police suspect it’s a case of suicide.
Rebecca Yeukai Nguruve had just arrived in Zimbabwe from her UK base before checking into the hotel in the Central Business District at approximately 1am on Sunday.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident, and said the body was found by hotel staff the following day.
“I can confirm the death of 35-year-old Rebecca Yeukai Nguruve,” Inspector Chakanza said. “Her body was discovered on February 2 around 9am at Jameson Hotel in Harare after cleaners noticed water dashing out from her room during the cleaning routine” he said
He also revealed that several substances were found at the scene that suggest the deceased took her own life.
“Police found maize herbicides near the body and various pills were also recovered from the room “Chakanza said
While the evidence currently points toward suicide, police have not yet released an official cause of death pending a full investigation and autopsy results.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the Jameson Hotel management were unsuccessful yesterday.
This reporter visited the hotel yesterday and the man who was being referred as the acting General Manager to H Metro that all senior management personnel were away on official duties and unavailable for comment.
