Midnight Inferno Guts Mbare’s Magaba Area
The Harare City Council has confirmed that the Magaba complex in Mbare was reduced to ashes following a massive fire that broke out shortly after midnight today.
According to the local authority, the blaze engulfed the popular industrial area, causing extensive destruction before emergency services could fully contain it.
The City of Harare Fire Brigade responded promptly to the distress call and deployed three fire tenders to the scene in a bid to control the inferno.
Despite the swift reaction, significant damage had already been done by the time firefighters began battling the flames.
The intensity of the fire posed serious challenges, prompting additional logistical support to ensure continuous firefighting operations.
To avoid delays caused by fire tenders returning to refill water, the Emergency Help Group stepped in and provided water tankers on site.
The intervention ensured a steady water supply, enabling firefighters to sustain their efforts and prevent the blaze from spreading further into surrounding areas.
Authorities have not yet established the cause of the fire. Investigations are expected to commence to determine the origin of the inferno and assess the full extent of the losses incurred.
Magaba is known as one of Harare’s busiest informal industrial hubs, housing numerous workshops and small-scale businesses.
The destruction of the complex is likely to have a significant economic impact on traders and artisans who operate in the area.
More details are expected to be released asq investigations continue.
