Binga Nurse Tricks Girlfriend Into Taking Abortion Pills_?

A 35-year-old nurse has appeared in the Binga Magistrates Court accused of terminating his girlfriend’s pregnancy without her consent.

Collia Mweembe, from Masili under Chief Sinakatenge Siabuwa and a nurse at Binga District Hospital, faces charges of unlawfully giving pills that allegedly caused a miscarriage.

The 31-year-old teacher, whose name has been withheld, discovered she was pregnant in August 2025 and told Mweembe, who initially accepted responsibility. He later asked her to terminate the pregnancy, but she refused.

A month later, she stayed overnight at his house. The court heard that Mweembe allegedly gave her pills he claimed were for flu-like symptoms.

During the night, he is said to have inserted his fingers into her private parts before engaging in sexual intercourse. She woke the next morning bleeding.

Instead of taking her to the hospital, Mweembe allegedly gave her a pregnancy test, which showed she was still pregnant.

When she asked to be taken to the hospital, he refused, insisting he would “nurse” her at home and that he knew what to do even if she went to the hospital.

As her condition worsened, the woman went to the hospital on her own, where staff confirmed she had suffered a miscarriage.

Prosecutor Nomila Nkala told the court that Mweembe’s actions directly caused the loss of the pregnancy.

Mweembe has not entered a plea. His trial is set to start on Monday, 16 February, and he was remanded out of custody.
