Fugitive Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe Woman Arrested For Assault
A 22-year-old woman from Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe (UMP) who had been on the run following an incident in which she and her sister allegedly humiliated another woman has been arrested.
In a statement released on Tuesday, 24 February, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that Tanaka Manjera had been taken into custody. The ZRP said:
“Reference is made to the ZRP post on the X platform on 21/02/26 regarding the arrest of Tambudzai Manjera (24) in connection with an assault incident which occurred in Uzumba on 20/02/26. The ZRP confirms the arrest of the outstanding suspect, Tanaka Manjera (22).”
Police launched a manhunt for the two sisters after a video of the assault circulated widely on social media.
The footage shows the Manjera sisters repeatedly striking a defenceless woman with a switch after stripping her naked from the waist down.
The ZRP have not disclosed what prompted the attack, but unconfirmed reports suggest the victim was accused of having a romantic relationship with the husband of one of the assailants.
