ZRP Releases Names Of Eight Killed In Chiredzi And Nyabira Accidents
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of eight people who died in two separate road accidents that occurred on 28 February and 1 March 2026 in Chiredzi and Nyabira.
In the first incident, three people were killed after a Nissan NV200 carrying 11 passengers overturned along the Roy–Buffalo Range Road in Chiredzi on Saturday evening.
According to police, the accident occurred at the 112km peg at around 6.30 pm when the driver attempted to overtake a truck while an oncoming vehicle was approaching.
After noticing the oncoming vehicle, the driver reportedly accelerated in a bid to complete the overtaking manoeuvre but lost control of the car.
The vehicle veered off the road to the left, overturned several times and eventually landed on its wheels.
Three passengers died in the crash, while eight others, including the driver, sustained serious injuries.
The bodies were taken to Chiredzi General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
The ZRP has identified the victims as Edmore Nhamo (34) of Tshovani, Chiredzi; Thomas Ngandini (23) of Dekesa Village, Zaka; and Cathrine Mupunga (34) of Mupunga Village, Gutu.
In the second accident, which occurred just after midnight on Sunday, five people died on the spot following a head-on collision at the 54km peg along the Harare–Chirundu Road.
Police said a Nissan AD Van carrying eight passengers and travelling towards Chinhoyi collided head-on with a Hino truck heading in the opposite direction towards Harare. The truck had six passengers on board at the time of the accident.
As a result of the collision, five occupants of the AD Van, including the driver, died on the spot, while three others were seriously injured.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured were referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment.
Police have identified the deceased as Bealla Mashinge (41) of Rusununguko Extension, Chinhoyi; Anesu Prisca Mutepfa (43) of Rusununguko Extension, Chinhoyi; Devine Muroyiwa (5), a juvenile from Rusununguko Extension, Chinhoyi; Munyaradzi Sosono (28) of Inkomo Barracks; and Mavis Takura (33) of Hunyani, Chinhoyi.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged motorists to exercise caution on the country’s roads and to observe traffic laws and regulations to protect lives.
