Vehicles Without Number Plates Won’t Pass Roadblocks, Checkpoints – ZRP
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said no vehicle without registration plates will be allowed to pass through police checkpoints or roadblocks.
On Tuesday, 10 March 2026, ZRP spokesperson Paul Nyathi said the police have launched a nationwide operation targeting vehicles on the roads without plates, as well as those illegally fitted with sirens, blue lights, bar lights, beacons, and other unauthorised gadgets.
Nyathi added that the operation applies to all types of vehicles, including family cars, company cars, government vehicles, and public service vehicles.
In a follow-up statement, Nyathi said the police will also take decisive action against anyone carrying out private escorts with vehicles fitted with illegal sirens or beacon lights. He said:
“The ZRP reiterates that no vehicle with no registration plates will be allowed to pass through police checkpoints or road blocks.
“In the same vein, Police will take decisive action on anyone engaging in private escorts with vehicles fitted with illegal sirens or beacon lights.
“Zimbabweans are once again reminded that public or private escorts are the preserve of the country’s presidium only.”
