“Don’t Hide Your Shadow”: Dr. Banda Hails Wicknell’s Rural Home

In a world where social media often feels like a highlight reel of perfection, billionaire philanthropist Sir Wicknell Chivayo has done something unexpected: he pulled back the curtain on his past, revealing the modest rural homestead where his incredible journey began.
And now, a surprising voice has joined the conversation to defend him.

Renowned traditional healer Dr. Banda is stepping into the spotlight not to talk about herbs or spirits, but to praise what he calls a powerful lesson in humility.
Sir Wicknell recently shared photos of his original family home—a simple, unrenovated structure from 1962 that has stood the test of time.
While some online critics were quick to judge, questioning why a man known for showering celebrities with expensive cars and living a life of opulence would leave his childhood home untouched, Dr. Banda sees it differently. He sees a masterpiece of memory.

“This is not neglect; this is preservation,” Dr. Banda shared warmly. “There is something sacred about old buildings. They hold our laughter, our struggles, and our dreams. When we try to erase them, we erase a part of ourselves.”

In his own emotional Facebook post, Sir Wicknell opened his heart to explain the sentiment behind the structure.
He described the old kitchen, recalling how in 1992, he would sleep on the floor there beside his grandmother (Mbuya), his little brother Clever, and his sister Patience. “To break down this kitchen and build a STATE-OF-THE-ART kitchen would be nothing,” he wrote. “These houses have so much sentimental value… they are like a museum. Changing them would erase PRICELESS MEMORIES.”

It is that raw honesty that struck a chord with Dr. Banda. He argues that in a culture obsessed with flashing success, Sir Wicknell has done the opposite by showing the foundation he rose from.

“What Sir Wicknell did is a lesson for all of us,” Dr. Banda explained. “We must not hide from our shadows. We have to show people our roots so they understand that power doesn’t come from money—it comes from God. He can raise us from dust to glory and change our lives in a heartbeat. That is the miracle we are seeing here.”

Dr. Banda urges the public to look beyond the criticism and see the bigger picture, drawing parallels to global treasures. He points to Nelson Mandela’s humble home in Soweto, which draws visitors from around the world, and the ancient walls of Great Zimbabwe, which are cherished precisely because they have been left in their natural state. Even former President Robert Mugabe’s early home in Highfield stands as a historical marker, not a modern mansion.

“If we were to renovate the Pyramids of Egypt, would they still hold their magic?” Dr. Banda asks. “No. It is the naturalness, the authenticity of these places that tells the true story. Sir Wicknell has turned his childhood home into a heritage site for his own family.”

Ultimately, Dr. Banda believes the video of the rural homestead is not a sign of failure, but a testament to an incredible journey. It is a story that resonates with anyone who has ever left a small town to chase a big dream.

“If he hadn’t shown us that video, we would never know where he came from,” Dr. Banda concluded. “The greatest lesson here is to never be shy of your beginnings. Where we come from does not define where we are going. It just reminds us of how far we have traveled.”
