Harare man honoured for donating blood 300 times over 49 years
The Emergency Help Group, in partnership with the National Blood Services of Zimbabwe, had the privilege of honoring Julian Ronald Buss, who has donated blood an incredible 300 times over 49 years.
“This is an extraordinary achievement, and we stand in awe of his commitment to the community. The number of lives he has helped save is immeasurable. He is truly a community hero,” the Group said in a statement.
“We also honor Mrs Buss, who has stood faithfully beside her husband throughout this journey. Her unwavering support speaks volumes, and her own contribution of 38 donations, with a goal of reaching 40, is inspiring.”
Julian’s donations eventually included monthly platelets, which contributed to him reaching this remarkable milestone.
Tje Emergency Help Group said it hoped his story inspires many more people to become consistent, committed blood donors so that blood shortages can become a thing of the past.
The Group gave a heartfelt thank you to renowned lawyer Beatrice Mthethwa for attending at EHG’s request to present the trophy to Mr Buss, in recognition of his inspiring contribution.
“EHG would like to sincerely thank NBSZ for a fantastic event. It was incredibly well organised and very enjoyable. Thank you for also acknowledging the work EHG does, the speech by the CEO was beautiful and unexpected. I am Humbled.”
