Heavy Rains Render Mana Pools Inaccessible
By Admire Chitsungo
The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has issued a public notice advising stakeholders and visitors that Mana Pools National Park has been severely affected by recent heavy rains in the Zambezi Valley, resulting in extensive damage to critical infrastructure.
According to ZimParks, the downpours have caused significant destruction to major access roads, including part of the Rukomechi Bridge, as well as the access road shortly after crossing the Runese River. The damage has rendered most routes leading into the park impassable, effectively restricting entry into one of Zimbabwe’s premier wildlife destinations.
In light of the situation, clients with confirmed bookings between March and April 2026 have been urged to contact the ZimParks Bookings Office to explore alternative arrangements. These may include rescheduling visits or receiving credit notes where applicable.
Additionally, self-driving visitors without prior bookings have been strongly advised to postpone any travel plans to the park until further notice.
ZimParks expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the unexpected developments and appealed for patience and cooperation from the public during this period of disruption.
For assistance and further inquiries, affected clients can reach out to ZimParks officials Christina Mhuriro and Choice Mushunje through the provided contact details.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship under its guiding principle, “In Harmony With Nature,” as efforts continue to assess and address the damage caused by the adverse weather conditions.
