The MCM Northern Region Division One League kicked off with a bang as newcomers Marere managed to hold their ground against Chingwere team in their opening match. The match ended in a nail-biting 0-0 draw, leaving both teams with a point each. However, for Marere, it was a lucky escape from what could have been an unfortunate defeat.

Chingwere came out strong in the first few minutes of the match, creating several scoring opportunities. Their left winger, Tafadzwa Bvute, proved to be a handful for the Marere defence, using his speed and skills to cause havoc. However, despite his efforts, Lady Luck did not seem to be on Chingwere’s side as they failed to convert any of their chances into a goals or found Marere Sanyati keeper at his best.

The second half saw a more determined Marere side, after coach Beknown Mhlaingera, had found ways to thwart Chingwere raids, and seemed to have regrouped during halftime,
but they have to thank goalminder, Leniency Bhudio, for coming up with some impressive saves to deny Chingwere’s marauding attacks.

Bhudio’s performance proved to be crucial in securing a point for Marere and avoiding a defeat. For a newly promoted teams in their debut season, both showed some moments of brilliance. The sharing of spoils is a testament to their potential and sets the tone for what could be an exciting season ahead for the teams.

Chingwere coach John Toto Ncube’s guidance and tactics were evident in the way Chingwere played.

The Chingwere scare was a wake-up call for Marere, and it is clear that they have what it takes to compete against the top teams in the league. With the right mindset and determination, they have the potential to survive and thrive in the MCM Northern Region Division One Leagues.

Although it ended in a draw, it was a victory in many ways for the new teams.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the two clubs to see how they rise to the challenge and overcome any obstacles that come their way.

In a postmatch interview, both coaches were content with the draw.

“We played well in the first half and in our debut season,in the first half we’re all over our opponents but we failed to put away chances that came out way but as a coach am happy with the point away from home” said John “Toto” Ncube
Marere Sanyati coach, Beknown Mhlaingera blamed short time preparations which made his charge’s very sloppy.
