Until Donkeys Grow Horns: Chadzamira’s Veiled Attack Intensifies ZANU-PF Succession Battles

Masvingo — Intra-party tensions within ZANU-PF have scaled new heights following hard-hitting remarks by Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira, who launched a stinging, veiled warning directed at internal rivals contesting the party’s succession roadmap.

Speaking during a public gathering, Chadzamira dismissed any prospects of immediate leadership changes, declaring that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure remains absolute under the party’s current framework. Employing stark metaphorical language that immediately drew widespread political commentary, Chadzamira asserted:

“Mnangagwa will rule until donkeys grow horns, that is if donkeys will ever grow horns.”

While avoiding naming any specific challengers directly, the provincial chairperson reinforced the concept of a single centralized authority within the governing party, warning internal dissenters against plotting for premature transitions. Emphasizing the immutable nature of the current presidency, Chadzamira stated:

“Zimbabwe has one President and one centre of power.”

To drive home the political permanence of the executive office, he reinforced his stance using local idiom, addressing potential contenders by noting:

“Hakuna zuva rinobuda rimwe ririko.”
“No new sun rises while another is still up in the sky.”

Chadzamira also took aim at private political calculations and internal machinations, remarking on backroom plots:

“Zvenyu zvekuti madziirwa nemadzimai enyu mumachira, mouya mohumana.”

That habit of yours where you scheme under the blankets with your wives, only to come out and whisper plots…”

Political analysts note that Chadzamira’s remarks reflect the intense factional anxieties gripping the ruling establishment as provincial loyalists double down on securing the 2030 term extension timeline against opposing factions within the party hierarchy.
