Multiple cars were deliberately firebombed overnight outside commercial properties associated with prominent Zimbabwean businessmen Wicknell Chivayo and Kudakwashe Tagwirei, along with a service station in Harare’s central business district.

In what appears to be a coordinated series of incidents, unidentified individuals targeted several strategic locations across Zimbabwe’s capital city during the late hours of last night. Eyewitnesses report that three separate vehicles were doused with flammable liquid and ignited outside key commercial properties, sending plumes of smoke into the night sky.

One of them is outside Chivayo’s Intratek headquarters, which he recently opened to operate his business from. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. The affected locations included business premises connected to business figures Wicknell Chivayo and Kudakwashe Tagwirei. A third attack occurred at a fuel station operated by the DA petroleum brand, though authorities have not yet confirmed whether this location was specifically selected or represents collateral damage. The business is rumoured to belong to Tinoda Machakaire. The businessmen are well-known allies of the ruling party.

According to a video shared by Vetenary journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, the burning cars were at the gate of the business premises.

Premises belonging to Kuda Tagwirei, John Mangudya, Tinoda Machakaire, and Wicknell Chivhayo were firebombed last night by unknown men. The men used cars which were set on fire after being drenched in petrol.

These events happened only hours after war veteran Blessed Geza labelled the businessmen ‘criminals around the president.’

As of now, neither of the businessmen has issued an official response to the fires, and even the police have yet to issue a statement on their investigations of the arsonists.
