Prof Dube inducted into National Excellence Hall of Fame

Gweru based leading businesswoman and philanthropist Amb Professor Smelly Dube has been inducted into the prestigious National Excellence Hall of fame- an honor made once every ten years, over the successes of Rivervalley Group of Properties that she leads as the Group Chief Executive together with her husband and the entity’s Executive Chairman Engineer Dr Mncedisi Dube.

At the ceremony held at the National Arts Gallery in Harare recently, Prof Dube was awarded the national gown of pride, legends and honor.

Harare Mayor, His Worship Clr Jacob Mafume unveiled the event.

In the citation of the honor made by Professor Christopher Samkange, director of the National Excellence Hall of Fame, it was highlighted that the honor was made after an extensive search across every town, published articles, untold stories, and nominations from various award ceremonies.

“Our team has identified you as a hero who has made history, inspired others, and left a lasting legacy in your field for example your mastery of your craft has elevated you to the greatest level of achievements, earning you a place among the Immortals,” read part of Prof Samkange’s citation.

Professor Christopher Samkange himself is a veteran urologist and a specialist surgeon at the University of Zimbabwe.

He said Prof Dube is now a certified Zimbabwean hero.

“You will be recognized for your outstanding contributions and achievements and will be certified among the legendary visionaries,” he said.

This prestigious recognition that is made special as it is celebrated once every ten years, honors excellence in categories such as medicine, education, business, mining, music and art, entertainment, and more.

Prof Dube suits well in the mining category as she fronts Tebekwe Mine in Shurugwi which has been producing significant gold output and revitalizing the sector.

The mine is contributing at least four kilograms of gold to national gold buyer Fidelity making its production is in line with Government’s drive to turn around the mining industry as it is major game changer to sustainable economic growth and the country’s GDP as Zimbabwe moves towards an upper middle class nation by 2030 in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision.

Recently, Tebekwe mine harvested acclaims from the Joint Parliamentary Portfolio Committees on Mines, Mining Development and Thematic Committee on Gender and Development over these immense contributions in uplifting the Shurugwi community especially women in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The joint committee convened a public hearing at the plant to conduct an inquiry into the access of women, youths, and persons with disabilities to the mining value chain in the province.

“Your nomination is a testament to your hard work, dedication, and impact in your field.

“According to our research, your journey was not an passive platform but you earned your spot despite being every challenges and all will be said on the day of the ceremony,where day a small statue of honor wil be unveiled.

“You will also be awarded stars of honor, rated by the public, which will reflect the true worth of your greatest achievements. Please note that this voting is not a determinant of your status as a legend, but rather a reflection of your legacy. Your picture will be featured in the National Excellence Online Museum, and you will be featured in our magazine of national heroes,” reads citation by the National Excellence Hall of Fame Committee.

Prof Smelly said that as a company they are honoured to be given this great honour and recognition in our land. It serves as an inspiration for them to keep aspiring to do more to contribute towards Vision 2030. We continue to be guided by the President’s vision and call for all citizens to contribute towards nation building.
