Gambler Cries Foul After US$8,000 Winnings Disappear from MWOS Betting Platform Account
A Zimbabwean punter is calling for justice after allegedly losing a significant sum of money following a win on a local online sports betting platform, MWOS.
The bettor, identified as Sibekithemba, says he placed a bet on Friday, 18 July 2025, and was thrilled to discover he had won a total of US$8,281.98.
However, what started as a moment of joy quickly turned into frustration and disbelief.
“On Saturday, I was allowed to withdraw only US$1,000,” he said. “They told me that was their daily withdrawal limit. I accepted that, assuming I could collect the rest over the next few days.”
To his surprise, on Sunday morning, his account was blocked without warning. By Sunday evening, the remaining balance of US$7,200 had been completely removed from his account.
“I immediately contacted their support to find out what was going on. I received no meaningful assistance. I even requested to meet someone from the company in person, but no one was available,” he added.
On Monday, Sibekithemba was given a phone number allegedly belonging to MWOS’s systems manager. The explanation he received left him stunned.
“They said the betting options I selected had been placed in error on their side, and because of that, they reversed my winnings. They refunded me only the US$1 I had used to place the bet and are now demanding that I repay the US$1,000 I had already withdrawn,” he explained.
Screenshots provided show deposits and transactions validating the existence of the winning balance, including entries for the US$8,281.98 payout and the US$1,000 withdrawal before the account was abruptly deactivated.
The gambler is appealing to the public and regulatory authorities to intervene.
“I just want fairness. I won a bet legitimately and now I’m being treated like a criminal for it,” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from @_MWOS had not yielded results by the time of publication.
