Pensioners’ Trust empowers pensioners with 5300 day-old chicks in Masvingo.

Harare – The Zimbabwe Pensioners’ Welfare Trust – in conjunction with Gain Cash and Carry – recently engaged Masvingo pensioners in an income-generating initiative which will see receipients being empowered to be self reliant to improve their welfare. The trust also donated assistance devices to some disabled pensioners at the same event.

The Zimbabwe Pensioners Welfare Trust (ZPWT) is an empowerment lobby group which advocates for the improvement of pensioners welfare. In Masvingo pensioners were empowered with 5300 day old chicks to help them supplement the low retirement packages they receive on a monthly basis which are not suffucient to sustain them.

The colourful event took place at Gain Cash and Carry in Masvingo.

Zimbabwe Pensioners Welfare Trust chief executive officer Amatas Rwazemba expressed gratitude at the initiative, stressing the importance of improving the welfare of pensioners by empowering them in starting income generating projects so as to improve their livelihoods and improving their welfare.

“Most pensioners are now struggling financially. The introduction of this empowerment initiative will go a long a long way in improving the livelihoods of pensioners financially,” said Mr Rwazemba.

He encouraged other pensioners to join the Trust and become members so as to benefit from several projects the Trust is offering in a bid to improve the livehoods of pensioners financially.

“I encourage all pensioners to come and enroll and become members of the Zimbabwe Pensioners Welfare Trust and get a chance to be empowered in several projects the organization is offering in Poultry Farming, Fish Farming, Cattle rearing and Housing projects,” said the Trust’s CEO.

The event was attended by officials from Ministry of State for Masvingo Province representatives from the Women Affairs Ministry, officials from the Veterinary Department and senior officials from Gains Cash and Carry.

Zimbabwe Pensioners Welfare Trust Chief Executive Officer indicated that the event was a milestone achievement in promoting poultry Farming and supporting people with disabilities.

“The collaboration between the trust together with Gains Cash and Carry and other stakeholders in this empowerment drive demonstrates true commitment to community development and empowerment,” said Mr Rwazemba.
