HORRIFIC NEWS: Dzivarasekwa woman arrested for allegedly killing her newborn baby
Tragedy struck Dzivaresekwa 2 on Tuesday after a 39-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly strangling her newborn baby in a desperate attempt to hide her pregnancy.
According to police sources, the woman gave birth alone in her bedroom during the early hours of the morning.
Her brother, alerted by the cries of the infant, rushed in and was met with a chilling sight–the lifeless baby placed inside a bucket while his sister sat in visible distress.
Investigations reveal that the suspect had reportedly lied to her family for months, claiming she was suffering from fibroids and acid-related complications to explain her swollen abdomen.
In a dramatic twist, her brother tricked her into thinking he was taking her for medical treatment but instead drove her straight to the police station, where she was immediately arrested.
Police confirmed that both the woman and the deceased infant were taken into custody pending further investigations.
The gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through Nhewe Street, with neighbours describing the incident as “heartbreaking and disturbing.”
Community members urged authorities to strengthen mental health support and crisis pregnancy interventions to prevent similar tragedies.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
