ZRP launches manhunt after deadly Penhalonga hit-and-run
THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating two separate fatal road traffic accidents that occurred within 24 hours this week, killing three people and injuring two others.
The incidents include a hit-and-run in Penhalonga and a head-on collision on the Harare-Chirundu Road.
Police confirmed they were searching for an unknown motorist who did not stop after hitting a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the road in Penhalonga.
“The ZRP is investigating a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident which occurred on 13/10/25 at the 7.5 km peg along Christmas Pass–Shamhu Road in Penhalonga. An unknown motorist, driving an unidentified vehicle, struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the road. The victim sustained head injuries and died on the spot. The motorist did not stop after the accident,” National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said in a statement.
In another incident, a haulage truck collided head-on with a Honda Fit and occupants of the Honda Fit, identified by the police as a couple, died instantly.
“Meanwhile, the ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 14/10/25 at the 82 km peg along Harare–Chirundu Road. A motorist driving a haulage truck collided head-on with a Honda Fit carrying two occupants. As a result of the collision, both occupants of the Honda Fit (a couple) died on the spot, while the two occupants of the truck were injured. The bodies of the victims were referred to Chinhoyi Hospital for post-mortem examination,” Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.
