HARARE — A 16-year-old Form Four learner has been remanded in custody after allegedly stabbing a 28-year-old housemaid multiple times in the neck with a kitchen knife, following a confrontation over USD 100 she accused him of stealing.
The incident occurred on 12 October 2025 at Zambezi Flats in Mabelreign, Harare, and has since gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage and renewed concern over youth violence.
In a statement shared on their official Twitter account, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest and revealed that the teenager first used an electric shocker on the maid before launching the knife attack.
Investigations established that the confrontation began when the maid confronted the learner about the missing money, leading to a violent escalation.
The victim survived the assault and is currently recovering from the injuries sustained during the attack.
Police arrested the suspect at the scene and referred him to court, where he was remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The video capturing the arrest has triggered widespread reaction online, with many calling for tougher measures to address youth crime and the use of dangerous weapons in domestic settings.
Authorities have urged communities to remain vigilant and report similar incidents to law enforcement.
