Harare’s top socialite drugged, raped and dumped completely naked at Chisipite Shopping Centre: CCTV footage unveils horrifying details

Harare – A prominent Harare socialite has become the victim of a harrowing crime, allegedly drugged at a popular nightclub, raped, and subsequently dumped naked at Chisipite Shopping Centre. The incident has sparked outrage and concern amongst residents of the capital.

Campbell Nyakudya appeared before magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa at the Harare Magistrates Courts yesterday, facing charges of rape and theft in connection with the incident. He was granted bail of US$200.

The state alleges that on Saturday night, the complainant was enjoying an evening out with friends at La Parada, a well-known restaurant and nightclub in Harare. The group later decided to move to Karma Night Club to continue their evening.

According to court documents, the complainant excused herself to use the bathroom. Upon returning to her table, she discovered that her friends had left. Nyakudya was reportedly standing nearby with an unidentified woman.

Unaware of any danger, the complainant picked up her glass and continued drinking while attempting to locate her friends. She has no recollection of the events that transpired afterwards.

The next thing she remembers is waking up at Chisipite Shopping Centre, completely naked and covered only by a piece of cloth.

Bystanders at the shopping centre informed her that she had been pushed out of a moving vehicle. Witnesses were unable to record the vehicle’s registration number as it sped away from the scene.

The socialite then discovered that her handbag, containing her iPhone 14 Pro Max, US$1,200 in cash, and a wig, was missing. She promptly reported the incident to the police.

Determined to uncover the truth, the complainant reviewed CCTV footage from one of the nightclubs she had visited that night. The footage allegedly shows a man spiking her drink with an unknown substance before escorting her to his car.

Based on the CCTV evidence, Nyakudya was apprehended by police on Tuesday.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the socialite’s prominent profile and the disturbing nature of the crime. The incident has also raised concerns about safety and security within Harare’s nightlife scene. It’s also an eye-opener for club goers, especially beer lovers, to never trust anyone with their drinks. Many people have been poisoned to death through leaving their drinks unattended, even for just a few seconds.

The investigation is ongoing, and the case is expected to continue in the Harare Magistrates Courts.
