3 die on the spot, four injured in tyre burst accident along Harare-Masvingo highway
BEATRICE – A harrowing road accident on the Harare-Masvingo Highway has claimed the lives of three people and left four others injured, including the driver, after a tyre burst caused a vehicle to veer off the road and overturn. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 6 pm, near Beatrice, Mashonaland East Province, at the 23-kilometre peg along the busy highway.
The vehicle involved in the fatal accident was identified as a Nissan NP300, driven by Mr Gabriel Chishiri. According to reports, the front left tyre of the vehicle suffered a sudden burst, causing Mr Chishiri to lose control. The vehicle then veered off the road, overturning three times before eventually landing on its wheels. The impact of the accident resulted in the immediate deaths of two passengers, while a third succumbed to their injuries later in hospital.
Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the details of the tragic incident. “It is reported that on November 2, 2025, at around 6 pm, a fatal road accident occurred at the 23 km peg along the Harare-Masvingo Road where three people were killed and four others were injured,” he stated.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police have since released the names of the three individuals who tragically lost their lives in the accident. Stanley Nzvengende, 37, of Kuwadzana Extension, Harare, sustained severe head injuries and died instantly at the scene of the accident. Mapakey Kingstone Ndega, also a resident of Kuwadzana Extension in Harare, suffered similar fatal head injuries and also died on the spot. The third victim, Ostin Mudzambi, 40, of Mt Pleasant Heights, was rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare but unfortunately passed away upon admission.
The injured, including the driver Mr Chishiri, are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. However, reports indicate that Mr Chishiri is in a serious condition, raising concerns about his recovery.
Inspector Chazovachiyi confirmed that the bodies of the deceased, Stanley Nzvengende, Mapakey Kingstone Ndega, and Ostin Mudzambi, were transported to Beatrice Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations and identification purposes.
In the wake of this tragic event, Inspector Chazovachiyi issued a strong appeal to all drivers to prioritise road safety and ensure their vehicles are in a roadworthy condition before embarking on any journey. “We also urge them to drive at safe speeds and adhere to all road rules and regulations,” he emphasised.
The Harare-Masvingo Highway is a major transport artery, connecting the capital city with the southern parts of the country. It carries a high volume of traffic, including passenger vehicles, haulage trucks, and buses. As such, it is imperative that all drivers exercise caution and vigilance while using this road.
