Warriors in 2-1 win against Qatar

Belgium-based forward Bill Antonio was the matchwinner as the Warriors edged Qatar 2-1 at Khalifa International Stadium tonight.

The victory, which is the first for Zimbabwe since a 3-1 win over Namibia in an Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier in October 2024, comes as a timely morale booster for the side ahead of next month’s Afcon finals where the Warriors face Egypt, South Africa and Angola in Group B.

After conceding a ninth minute goal against their hosts, the Warriors fought back remarkably, with Denmark-based defender Munashe Garanganga restoring parity with a header in the 24th minute before Antonio’s 75th minute intervention sealed the win for the Warriors, who were playing their second match under the charge of Romanian gaffer Marian ‘Mario’ Marinica.
