ZRP tracks content creator David Nhunza, who is using AI to generate videos which tarnish the image of police officers
Police have opened a man-hunt for David Nhunzva after the 24-year-old posted deep-fake clips that show uniformed officers bowing and clapping for him.
Nhunzva, who has 112 000 followers under the handle @dr_nhunzva, overlays his face on footage of street patrols and command parades, then adds captions mocking commanders for “begging” for transport fuel.
Detectives at CID Law and Order want him for questioning under the Cyber and Data Protection Act, which carries up to five years jail for publishing false data that “undermines confidence in a law-enforcement body”.
The statement warns users against sharing the clips; anyone who reposts risks the same charge of circulating “fabricated reality”.
Nhunzva’s account went silent on Christmas Eve; friends say he left Harare for Mutare but his phone is off.
Digital-rights lawyers argue the law was meant for fake bomb scares, not satire, yet the State has already secured three convictions this year over manipulated political images.
