Joseph Mutangadura Murder: Another Suspect Arrested This Xmas Holiday
Police have made another breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of well-known businessman Joseph Mutangadura, with an eighth suspect now in custody as the case continues to unfold.
Ephraim Alfas (37) appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court facing charges of murder and armed robbery.
He was remanded in custody, and the matter is set to return to court as investigations progress, ZBC News reveals.
According to the State, Alfas was part of a criminal gang that targeted Joseph Mutangadura during a violent robbery on 17 August 2025.
The court heard that the group allegedly descended on the businessman’s home with the intention of stealing valuables.
During the attack, Mutangadura was shot in the chest and died at the scene.
Joseph Mutangadura was killed at his residence in Lisheen Estate, Ruwa, after armed assailants reportedly subdued a security guard before forcing their way into the house.
The intruders entered the bedroom where Mutangadura was with his wife and opened fire.
The 67-year-old businessman was rushed to Eden Hospital in Windsor, Ruwa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His wife survived the ordeal but sustained injuries during the attack.
Earlier Arrests and Suspects Still at Large
Investigations into the murder have led to several arrests in different parts of the country. On 3 October 2025, police apprehended Phillip Mutasa (38) in Gweru.
Days later, on 13 October, Given Mandizadza (34) was arrested in Harare, with officers recovering firearms, ammunition and explosives from his vehicle.
