5.4km section of Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway opened to traffic
A newly rehabilitated 5.4-kilometre stretch of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway was officially opened to traffic on Tuesday, as work on the major road upgrade continues.
The section, located at Cross Jotsholo, brings the total length of the highway that has now been rehabilitated and opened to motorists to 37.5 kilometres.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, 30 December 2025, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development said:
“As of today, 37.5km of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road has been completed and opened to traffic on the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road Rehabilitation and Widening Project.”
The Ministry also released a detailed progress update as of 30 December 2025, outlining how the eight contractors assigned to the project are performing.
Bitumen World currently leads in completed works, with 20.9 kilometres already opened to traffic. Fossil Contracting follows with 6.2 kilometres, while Bitumen Resources has completed the newly opened 5.4-kilometre stretch at Jotsholo. Syvern Investment has so far delivered 5.0 kilometres.
The remaining contractors, Masimba Construction, Tensor Systems, Asphalt Products and Linash Construction, are yet to open any completed sections. As it stands, a total of 402.9 kilometres of the road is still under construction.
The 440-kilometre Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway has been in poor condition for years, and while the opening of the latest section is a step forward, it represents only a small portion of the full route and has yet to significantly improve the overall driving experience for motorists. *_-Pindula_*
