Locking Pontential: PWDs4ED Demands Inclusive Funding to Drive Zimbabwe’s Growth

Harare – People with Disabilities for Economic Development (PWDs4ED) is calling for funding opportunities that match their expertise, saying current funding is limited to small projects that don’t leverage their skills in areas like carpentry, welding, and sawing.
“We’re not just beneficiaries of charity, we’re contributors to Zimbabwe’s economic development,” said Agri Musayengana, Chairperson of PWDs4ED. “With 15% of the population living with disabilities, we have a significant potential to drive growth and achieve the 2030 goals of medium and upper living standards for all Zimbabweans.”
PWDs4ED has been working across 10 provinces, led by Patron Cde Jimaya Muduviri, providing food hampers and support to vulnerable communities. However, the organization says it’s time to move beyond welfare and focus on economic empowerment.
“Mobility issues and inaccessible housing are major challenges, but with the right support, we can overcome these hurdles and thrive,” Musayengana said.
PWDs4ED believes President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inclusive approach to disability issues will help address these challenges and unlock their economic potential.
