Suluman Chimbetu’s Video Praying For Mnangagwa Draws Social Media Backlash

Musician Suluman Chimbetu has shared a video of himself praying for Zimbabwe’s First Family.

In the clip, Chimbetu is seen kneeling beside a tree, offering prayers for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, their children, grandchildren, and extended family.

He referenced a sermon by preacher Emmanuel Makandiwa, who encouraged people to pray for their leaders.

During the prayer, Chimbetu asked for the President to be granted a long life, describing him as chosen by God.

The video drew strong reactions on social media. Many users criticised Chimbetu, calling the act a “stunt” and accusing him of seeking attention.

Some suggested he was hoping to attract the notice of Wicknell Chivayo, who has gifted cars to musicians and others who publicly praise the President.

Critics have also pointed out a growing trend where celebrities and ordinary people record themselves singing Chivayo’s praises, which they say is aimed at receiving cars, cash, or other rewards.
