“LEAD Demands Fairness in Salary Adjustments for Civil Servants”
By Desire Tshuma
Harare, Zimbabwe – The Labour, Economic Activists, and Democracy (LEAD) movement has called for equity in salary adjustments for civil servants and parastatal workers, saying it’s time to prioritize the welfare of those who serve the nation.
In a press statement, LEAD President Linda Tsungirirai Masarira emphasized that if fiscal space exists to adjust party salaries, then justice requires parallel relief for public servants whose real wages have been eroded by inflation and currency instability.
“Equity and national cohesion demand consistency. If fiscal space exists to adjust party salaries, then justice requires parallel relief for public servants whose real wages have been eroded by inflation and currency instability,” Masarira said.
Masarira called for immediate, across-the-board salary reviews for civil servants and parastatal workers, benchmarked to the cost of living, and transparent timelines and a public implementation framework to avoid selective application.
“Zimbabwe can not be rebuilt on selective upliftment. Nation-building is powered by those who teach, heal, protect, register, engineer, and serve—every single day,” she emphasized.
The LEAD movement is urging the government to apply the same resolve shown to party workers to the servants of the people, and let fairness be the policy.
Masarira’s statement has been welcomed by civil servants and parastatal workers, who have been struggling to make ends meet due to the economic challenges facing the country.
