Harare – The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has launched its 2026 strategy, themed “Enforcing Prosecutorial Accountability for Inclusive Prosperity and Stability through Effective Prosecution of High-Impact Cases Without Fear or Favor.”

In her address at the Officers’ Mess, Harare Central Prison, Prosecutor General Loice Matanda Moyo emphasized, “Our theme for this year is a deliberate handshake with the Judicial Service Commission’s own theme for the year… We recognize a fundamental truth, quality judgments from the bench are contingent upon quality prosecutions from the NPAZ.”

Moyo highlighted the NPAZ’s achievements under NDS1, including structural growth, digital modernization, and tackling case backlogs. “We declared war on backlogs and inefficiency, and the results speak for themselves. Despite starting the year with a massive workload of 40,000 cases in the first quarter, we didn’t just maintain the status quo – we broke the cycle of accumulation and reduced our backlog significantly,” she said.

The Prosecutor General outlined the NPAZ’s focus areas for 2026-2030, including prosecuting high-impact cases, combating economic crimes, and protecting the environment. “Those who undermine our economic stability – the tax evaders and the money launderers – will face the full, unyielding wrath of the law,” Moyo warned.

Moyo stressed the importance of technology, saying, “The future of justice across the world is digital. With Treasury’s backing, we are not just talking about innovation, we are driving it.”

The NPAZ aims to achieve a 90% case clearance rate within set timelines and will intensify efforts to recover stolen wealth and prosecute environmental crimes. “We will ensure that ‘green crimes’ are met with ‘red alerts’ across our legal system,” Moyo asserted.

The Prosecutor General concluded, “The NPAZ stands as a guardian of the nation’s future, dedicated to upholding the rule of law through efficient, transparent, and courageous prosecution.”
