Woman Battles Crocodile With Bare Hands As Her Children Watch In Horror In Mwenezi River

A woman from Rutenga in Masvingo Province narrowly escaped a grisly death after a crocodile attacked her in the Mwenezi River on Saturday.

Fungayi Chikamwe Maburuse, who was travelling from Beitbridge to Mwenezi with her two young children, had stopped at the Mwenezi River Bridge along the Masvingo–Beitbridge Highway for a spot of sightseeing when the reptile struck.

Masvingo Mirror reported that the enormous crocodile grabbed Maburuse by the breast and dragged her underwater as her children screamed for help.

She pinched the animal’s nose, forcing it to momentarily release her, only for it to seize her by the knee and pull her back into the river.

Using a stick to fend off the predator, Maburuse finally managed to claw her way to safety before other crocodiles in the vicinity could join the attack.

She is now receiving treatment at NORAZ Surgical Clinic in Masvingo, where doctors are managing multiple serious injuries.

Maburuse is appealing for assistance with her medical bills, which are approaching US$2000 due to extensive surgical interventions.
