“You’ll Regret It”: Mahere Tells Moyo Not To Return Yet Despite Chivayo Assurances

Outspoken former opposition MP Fadzayi Mahere has warned exiled former Information Minister Jonathan Moyo against returning to Zimbabwe too soon, saying he would regret it.

Moyo, a leading member of the G40 faction within ZANU PF during the party’s factional battles, fled the country in 2017 amid the military coup that ended Robert Mugabe’s nearly four-decade rule.

On Thursday, Wicknell Chivayo, a close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, offered Moyo a brand-new car and suggested he consider returning to Zimbabwe. Wrote Chivayo on X:

“Perhaps it is time to COME BACK HOME, because home is BEST. Our Revolutionary mass party, ZANU PF, embraces the principle of being a friend to all and an ENEMY TO NONE.

“Should you decide to return, I would PERSONALLY come and pick you from the airport in my 2026 Rolls-Royce and chauffeur you home, safely, then the next morning you make your way to see Victor, and you collect a brand new car of your choice.”

However, Mahere warned Moyo that if he returns to Zimbabwe now, he could face serious danger, adding that he should stay where he is and “never” come back. She said:

“If you take up this offer, then makatopusa zvekudaro. Mumwe wenyu akanzi dzoka, nhasi aripi? This time, Mugabe nekamudhudhudhu kaye hazvipo.

“Munoshaya anokubuditsai, and there will be no crying ‘mama, please save us.’ Munoitwa kanyama-kanyama. Garai ikoko musafe makadzoka. Thank me later.”

Mahere appeared to be referring to Walter Mzembi, another former G40 figure, who was reportedly lured back to Zimbabwe and arrested, then jailed without bail just days after his return.

She then attached a tweet from Moyo several years ago, in which he claimed that President Mnangagwa never forgives those who have wronged him. The tweet reads:

“Cruelty, murder, sex, money and tribalism, in no particular order; are @edmnangagwa’s core values. He is bad news. There is no living person ever forgiven by Mnangagwa; and there is no case of him ever genuinely reconciling with anyone he has considered a political or ethnic foe!”
