‎Tragedy in Epworth: Missing Man (23) Found Dead in Suspected Suicide

‎Harare -,  A cloud of grief and shock has settled over the Domboramwari community following the grim discovery of 23-year-old Anesu Shereni’s body in his home on Friday evening.

Shereni, who had been missing for three days, is suspected to have taken his own life.

‎The discovery was made after neighbors grew concerned by a pungent odor emanating from the residence and the sight of flies swarming around the doors and windows.

‎Local police attended the scene yesterday, confirming that Shereni’s body had remained undiscovered for approximately three days.

While official investigations are ongoing, authorities have noted that the presence of poisonous substances near the body suggests a case of suicide.

‎”The body had been in the house for about three days before it was discovered,” a police spokesperson stated.

“The matter is a suspected suicide, and while investigations are underway, the body remains at the scene pending further procedures.”

‎For the Shereni family, the news is a devastating blow.

His aunt, Tracy Kanjani, recalled speaking to him on February 18th—the day he went missing—with no inkling that it would be their final conversation.

‎”When I heard the news, I was in shock,” Kanjani said.

‎ “When I arrived at the scene, there were poison substances and the body was already in a state of decomposition.”

‎His father, Gift Shereni, expressed profound pain, struggling to reconcile the quiet nature of his son with the sudden tragedy. “We were in communication, but he never said anything [was wrong], which is the most painful part,” he shared.

‎While the police have not officially confirmed a motive, local sources suggest that Shereni had recently faced a significant personal crisis. It is reported that he had been raising a four-year-old child whom he believed to be his own, only for his ex-girlfriend to recently reveal that he was not the biological father.

‎Neighbors described Shereni as a “quiet person who mostly kept to himself,” a trait that may have contributed to his disappearance going unnoticed for several days.

‎This tragic incident has sparked an urgent dialogue within the Epworth community regarding mental health and the “silent” struggles faced by young men.

Local residents are now emphasizing the importance of checking on loved ones, especially those who live alone or are known to be reserved.
