ZRP urges motorists to report errant kombi drivers
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged the public to report reckless or errant drivers to allow swift police action.
In a statement, the ZRP commended a Harare motorist who reported an unruly kombi driver at Borrowdale Police Station for allegedly breaching traffic laws.
Police shared the motorist’s message, in which they encouraged other road users to report dangerous drivers so they can face justice, even though it may require the complainant to appear in court as a witness. The message reads:
“On Friday, a combi pulled up next to me at the Borrowdale Village traffic lights that were red. He was in the right turning lane.
“I suspected he would cut into my lane to go straight, so I opened my window and told him not to cut in front of me. He then took off, did exactly that, AND went thru the red light at the same time.
“I followed once the light turned green and came across him picking up passengers further along.
“I went behind him, took a pic and pulled up next to him and said that I would be reporting him and drove off.
“I did report him to Avondale Traffic police, who then arrested him that afternoon. I was asked to make a report at Borrowdale Police Station, which I did. I saw the vehicle parked there.
“As there was a public holiday on the Saturday, there was no court. The vehicle has been there all weekend.
“I got a call this morning asking me to appear in court tomorrow morning, which I will happily do. Let’s see the outcome.
“Avondale Traffic encourage anyone to do this if they can. Yes its an inconvenience for us. But if we all did one every so often, I’m sure it would make an impact.
“We can be their eyes when these combis are breaking the law. Just the fact that he will have lost business for at least 3½ days should make him think twice next time.” *_-Pindula_*
