A 20-year-old man from Gutu, Tafadzwa Jimere, has been arrested for allegedly abducting a three-year-old boy in the Mucheke F residential suburb on Tuesday, 24 February.

Masvingo Deputy Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu confirmed the incident to the Masvingo Mirror. He said:

“There is an incident of kidnapping which took place on February 24 in Mucheke F in Masvingo.

“A man from Gutu under Chief Nerupiri, Tafadzwa Jimere (20), approached a three-year-old juvenile while he was playing with other children and carried him away.”

It is alleged that the child was riding a bicycle outside his yard with other children when Jimere approached, pretending to help him ride.

He then allegedly carried the boy away. Other children raised the alarm, prompting the boy’s mother and neighbours to launch a search.

The child was later found with Jimere along PJ Fushai Street in Mucheke. When confronted, the accused reportedly said he wanted to take the child back to Gutu.

Jimere is currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
