Harare Teacher, Whose Belongings Were Thrown Into Her Classroom By Ex-Husband, Granted Protection Order

A Harare teacher has been granted a protection order at the Harare Civil Court following a disturbing incident in which her former husband allegedly dumped her personal belongings in her classroom.

In her application, Patricia Yusufu described the traumatic ordeal she endured at the hands of her ex-husband, Charles Mike.

The presiding magistrate granted the protection order in Yusufu’s favour after Mike failed to attend the court hearing. In her application, Patricia said:

“I was once customarily married to the respondent, Charles Mike.

“Our customary union ended on April 2, 2025, when he forcibly removed me from our home after I refused to relinquish my personal vehicle, which he intended to sell unlawfully for his own gain.

“The customary rites to formally dissolve our marriage were completed nearly a year ago.”

Yusufu said that on the day of the incident, she was teaching when Mike, accompanied by others, entered her classroom carrying three large sacks filled with her clothes. She said:

“They began shouting vile accusations at me, labelling me a prostitute and claiming I had a boyfriend.

“These allegations are entirely false and it’s shocking to hear them from a former husband from whom I’ve been separated.”

Mike and his associates emptied the sacks onto the classroom floor, scattering Yusufu’s clothes in front of her students, fellow teachers, and several parents who were present at the school. Said Yusufu:

“This degrading act left me traumatised, distressed and seriously defamed.”

The couple’s marriage ended last year under strained circumstances.

Yusufu was convicted of stealing US$5,200 from her ex-husband. She served 170 hours of community service at a local hospital and repaid the money in full.

Mike has since filed an application to contest the default judgment that granted Yusufu the protection order. – _H-Metro_
