Presidential amnesty beneficiary steals car, a phone and US$1,800 cash

A man released on Presidential Amnesty is back behind bars after he allegedly stole a car, a cellphone and US$1 800 nine days after gaining his freedom.

Benjamin Manyangadze (20) of Ruwa allegedly stole US$1 800 cash and a motor vehicle parked at the complainant’s residence in Redcliff last Wednesday.

The incident happened in the evening when the complainant Tawanda Godfrey Magure (46) was away.

Manyangadze was caught by the police in Murombedzi while driving the vehicle.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the case to Masvingo Mirror.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police is informing the general public about the arrest of a suspect for unlawful entry into premises and theft of a motor vehicle.

“The suspect Benjamin Manyangadze was arrested at Murombedzi Business Centre on Monday evening. He was released from Marondera Prison on 2 March 2026, where he was serving for six counts of unlawful entry and theft,” said Mahoko.

Circumstances surrounding the incident are that on 11 March 2026 at around 5pm, the suspect stole a Peugeot, registration number AGY 1389, cash US$1 800, a Techno cellphone and other items of property.

At around 5pm on Monday, detectives spotted the stolen motor vehicle along Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road. They roped in ZRP Murombedzi to assist, resulting in the motor vehicle being intercepted at Murombedzi Business Centre. *_-Masvingo Mirror_*
