Taxi driver steals his new boss’s car on his first day at work
A cheeky village mechanic, who was employed as a taxi driver, stole his boss’s vehicle the day he was given the vehicle to start work.
He went on to sell the vehicle.
Promise Musendo 32 of Chikuruwo Village Gandanzara, Chief Makoni, appeared before Rusape magistrate, Tendai Mahwe, facing one count of theft of trust property.
Musendo was not represented and pleaded guilty to selling a Toyota Raum valued at US$2,000.
The car belonged to Morgan Madimu.
Mahwe sentenced him to 36 months’ imprisonment before suspending 12 months for five years on condition of good behaviour.
Twelve months were set aside on condition of restitution.
The remaining 12 months were suspended on condition that Musendo performs 420 hours of community service.
Prosecutor Faith Mutukwa told the court Musendo vanished with the car on the day he was employed last year and was only arrested this year after selling the vehicle through a local dealer. *_-H-Metro_*
