Rapist prophet splashes unknown substance on victimβs face
A SELF-PROCLAIMED prophet from Johane Masowe, Nguwo Tsuku, is accused of splashing an unknown substance on the face of a 15-year-old girl, causing her to fall unconscious before allegedly sexually attacking her.
Simon Mpofu (30), who is from Gababi Village in Nkayi, Matabeleland North Province, appeared before Provincial Magistrate Mr Abednico Ndebele facing a charge of allegedly raping a 15-year-old who is doing Form Two.
In her warned and cautioned statement, the teenage girl said on March 1, her neighbour invited them to Madzibaba Mpofu and told them that he was a powerful man of God who cast out evil spirits and healed various ailments.
βAfter that, I joined my neighbours and headed to the homestead where Mpofu was camping, healing and praying for people,β she said.
βWhile we were seated in the yard, Madzibaba Mpofu came out of the room and called me into the room. As soon as I entered the room, he splashed a substance on my face, causing me to feel dizzy, and I fell to the ground. After that, he raped me.
βAfter raping me, he told me not to tell anyone and said if I did, the evil spirits would torment my life,β said the victim.
A neighbour who was in the company of the minor said: βWhile we were seated around the fireplace, Madzibaba Mpofu came to us singing in a low tone and stood a few metres from us before calling the girl to his room where he conducted prayers. After about 10 minutes, the girl came out crying and told us she had been raped.β
After the sexual assault, the minor went to her home and narrated the ordeal to her grandmother. The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
The prosecutor told the court that the teenage girl was taken for medical examination at Nkayi District Hospital, and a medical report can be produced in court as an exhibit.
The accused has been remanded in custody until April 2. Chronicle
