The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of five of the seven people who were killed in a road traffic accident on 3 April 2026 at around 9:10 PM, at the 57-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road in Mawabeni, Umzingwane.

Seven bystanders lost their lives after being hit by a truck at the accident scene that also involved three smaller vehicles.

ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Sunday that five of the victims had been identified by their next of kin.

Among them was Khumbulani Tshuma, 32, of 988 Bekezela, Filabusi, who had been travelling in a white Toyota Hilux that had stopped at the accident scene. Senzangakhona Moyo, 43, of Old Lobengula, Bulawayo, was a passenger in the same vehicle.

Victor Moyo, 39, of Pumula South, Bulawayo, was a passenger in a white Toyota Probox that had also pulled off at the scene, while Dumoluhle Ncube, 30, of Pumula South, Bulawayo, was driving a truck that had stopped at the accident site. The fifth identified victim was Fundani Moyo, 53, of Mbonjeni Village, Esibomvu.

Commissioner Nyathi said the remaining two victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin. He urged members of the public to exercise caution when approaching or gathering at road accident scenes.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges members of the public to exercise caution when approaching or gathering at road traffic accident scenes,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

“The public is strongly discouraged from crowding such scenes, as this significantly increases the risk of secondary accidents.

“Only individuals providing essential assistance should remain at the scene, while others are advised to keep a safe distance.

Commissioner Nyathi also urged motorists to slow down when approaching any accident scene.

He said: “Those who may have been involved in a road traffic accident or experienced a breakdown should switch on hazard lights to enhance visibility and place reflective warning triangles at a safe distance from the scene to alert oncoming traffic.”
