Iran allows limited passage through Strait of Hormuz under two-week ceasefire deal

Iran has announced a temporary reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, allowing safe passage of vessels for two weeks as part of a fragile ceasefire arrangement.

In a statement issued in Tehran, Foreign Affairs Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Iran would halt defensive operations if attacks against the country cease. He added that shipping through the strategic waterway would be coordinated with Iran’s armed forces during the period.

The move follows mediation efforts involving Pakistan and comes amid U.S.-backed proposals to begin negotiations.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route, had faced disruptions during recent hostilities, raising concerns over energy supplies and regional stability.

Observers say the reopening remains conditional and could be reversed if tensions escalate.
