A woman welcomes rare quintuplets after 12-year journey to motherhood

An “overjoyed” Ethiopian woman has given birth to a rare set of quintuplets after 12 years of trying to conceive.

Bedriya Adem, 35, welcomed four boys and a girl via cesarean section on Tuesday, May 5, at Hiwot Fana Specialized Hospital, according to the BBC.

All five babies—reported by the hospital to be in full health—have been named Naif, Ammar, Munzir, Nazira, and Ansar.

Adem told the outlet she struggled to put her joy into words. Initially, she said, she was told she was carrying four babies. “I prayed for just one child, and Allah gave me five,” she added.

Adem also said she and her husband were thrilled to be “blessed with five children at once,” marking their first time as parents.
