KONJANA SWORN IN AS CHEGUTU URBAN WARD 1 COUNCILLOR
By Innocent Muchochomi in Chegutu
MDC Alliance’s 2018 parliamentary candidate, Gift Konjan, who later defected to Zanu PF and disappeared after winning the Chegutu Urban Council Ward 1 by-election on a ruling party ticket in February, was sworn in at the Chegutu Town House Council Chamber on Wednesday.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted behind closed doors and even media practitioners were denied entry.
In a post-inauguration interview, Konjana admitted there were threats which caused him to vanish but he now felt secure.
“I am happy with the support and assurance I’m getting from the party hierarchy and everyone.”
“There was a time I felt living in solitary confinement but calls from all let me revisit my thinking and here I am to be a servant of the residents,”
“As you can see, I’m very safe. Chegutu District Zanu-PF Chairman Brian Chinyama picked me up from home and he is going to drop me there,” said Konjana.
Chegutu Chamber secretary George Kasamu apologised to media personnel for the ignorance of Municipal police officers.
“I think there was miscommunication and I’m really sorry that you were barred from covering such an event,” Kasamu said.
