Man slapped with 20-year jail term for raping teen neighbour
A Norton man has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment after raping his teen neighbour in aggravating circumstances.
Kelvin Chikanga was convicted after a full trial by Harare regional magistrate Noel Mupeiwa.
The court heard that on April 20, the complainant was sleeping with her 11-year-old sister when Chikanga broke into their house, through the veranda celling.
The teenager was awakened by the noise of Chikanga’s footsteps and she proceeded to the kitchen.
He pushed her to the ground and threatened to kill her and ordered her not to shout but she continued crying.
He allegedly then raped her.
The complainant’s sister heard her crying and went to the kitchen where she saw Chikanga raping her.
The girls’ father heard the commotion and his children calling out for help but by the time he arrived in the kitchen, Chikanga had already bolted out of the house.
The family promptly filed a police report, leading to his arrest.
In his ruling, Mupeiwa commended the girl who fought for her sister despite the risks to her life.
Mandirasa Chigumira appeared for the State. *_-H-Metro_*
