Chingwere FC striker Brendon Paundi scored a late goal to salvage a point in an exciting mid-week Northern Region Soccer League derby against Chegutu Pirates at Pfupajena Stadium
Paundi capitalised on Pirates’ last moments defensive lapses to nullify a spectacular goal in the 57th minute from Edwin Tsoro, sending a singing multitude of Chegutu supporters into a deafening silence
The goal was a cruel blow to Pirates as they believed they had exorcized the curse haunting them, resulting in draws.
Out of the 20 games played to date, Pirates have drawn 12 times, only registered 4 wins and lost 4 games
After a goalless first half, Pirates returned in the second half seeking a lead, and substitute Tsoro let the fans erupt into song and dance with a clinical goal.
Tsoro complimented a nice move initiated by Harzem Bonomali when he received a pass from Jimmy Ngulube, chest controlled the high ball facing away from goal, and acrobatically placed it into the top corner leaving Chingwere goalie standing at akimbo
Speedy pint-sized Bonomali nicknamed Gas Tank had a field day grilling and roasting Chingwere defence, and, had Pirates strikeforce utilised his deliveries they could have bump-harvested goals. unfortunately, they had to blame poor conversion rate for the draw
The outcome was a bitter pill to swallow as the Pirates believe they are bewitched.
“Witchcraft is at work. Several individuals are plotting the demise of the community club because it is unimaginable that with all the opportunities we had and how we dominated, we failed to win.”
