Chatunga Mugabe and 4 co-accused granted US$100 bail

Former President Robert Mugabeโ€™s son, Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, and four co-accused have each been granted US$100 bail by the Harare Magistratesโ€™ Court in a case involving allegations of robbery and malicious damage to property.

The State consented to their release after indicating that there were no compelling reasons to oppose bail.

The five accused are Chatungaโ€™s security aide, Munashe Mubhawu, and three security guards, Terence Johannes Chinyemba, Fredson Peter and Solomon Pamire.

They were ordered to reside at their respective stated addresses and not interfere with State witnesses. They are expected to return to court on **November 24, 2026**.

The case stems from an alleged attack on a security guard at Brompton Guest Lodge in Harare on November 3.

According to court documents, the five allegedly confronted and assaulted the guard, who was on surveillance duty at the lodge, using open hands and broomsticks.

During the incident, one of the accused allegedly took the guardโ€™s Norinco service pistol, which was loaded with 11 rounds, while the group allegedly seized his Samsung A56 cellphone and smashed it on the ground.

The guard reportedly sustained a deep cut to his forehead and was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Police subsequently arrested the five suspects, with the stolen service pistol later recovered from the second accused.

They are facing two charges: robbery, under Section 126(1)(a), and malicious damage to property, under Section 140 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].

The value of the allegedly stolen and damaged property is yet to be established.

The five will remain out of custody pending trial, subject to their bail conditions. *_-ZBC_*
