One person died while several others were injured after an intercity bus rammed into a tipper truck at Bondamakara, along the Harare-Nyamapanda road, it has been established.

A video seen by The Eastern Review that has gone viral on social media shows two buses bound in the same direction racing on a narrow highway.

The driver of the leading bus from Zebra Kiss failed to take heed of a horn warning from the pursuing bus belonging to Rimbi Tours which intended to overtake.

Instead, the Zebra Kiss Driver disregarded road rules and kept obstructing the Rimbi driver from overtaking him by encroaching on the other lane. Without warning, the Zebra Kiss bus overtook a tipper truck while the Rimbi driver rammed into the back of the truck.

The whole scenario leading to the horrific crash was recorded live by passengers on the bus. Some could be heard in the background threatening to call the bus owners to report the reckless driving being exhibited by the two drivers.

Reports say the Rimbi bus conductor died on the spot. Pictures from the scene show injured bus occupants, with a man’s lower left leg severely crashed.

First responders attended the scene and helped evacuate the injured from the wreckage. Police had not yet issued a statement by the time of publication.
