FBC Zimbabwe Open Golf Tournament Dates Set

The biggest local and international golf tournament dates was set on Thursday February 13 2023 by the Zimbabwe Open Committee at Royal Harare Golf Club.

Zimbabwe Open Committee has successfully been running the tournament since they resuscitated it since 2010. The tournament was launched in 1986 and ran through to 2010 when the national tournament was mothballed due to the economic turbulence the country experienced then in terms of foreign remittances for the tournament winners.

Between 1986 and 2001 , three Zimbabwean golf raised the country flag high by winning Zimbabwe Open several times. The golfers were Anderson Rusike who was an amateur at the time of his victory, Nick Price and Mark McNulty.

“My committee which is a subsidiary of Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) resuscitated Zimbabwe Open in 2010 and has successfully run the tournament with the exception of the period 2019 to 2021 due to unprecedented uncertainties that include the deadly Covid-19 pandemic ” said Livingston Gwata who is the chairman of Zimbabwe Open Committee.

The tournament is scheduled to kickoff on April 30 until May 7 2023.

“We have offered tittle sponsorship to our partners and sponsors over the years and that is affording them opportunity to name the tournament after their chosen brand. We have been fortunate to have the tournament named after illustrious brands over the years and these are Africom which titled the tournament twice , Golden Pilsener, several times and the Old Mutual.

FBC Holdings Limited is the title sponsors for the 2023 Zim Open tournament and this for the second year in a row. FBC Holdings will headline the sponsorship in association with Bon Marche.
The tournament is expected to be exciting with the solid support from Golden Pilsener, Tongaat Hulett, Sawhira Events and lifestyle and Liquid Intelligent Technologies, all which have supported the tournament for years.

Kufazvinei went further to say as FBC Holdings one of their many passiond was to drive development of golf in Zimbabwe.

“I am pleased to announce that FBC Holdings as a title sponsor have availed a total of US$150.000 towards the 2023 Zim Open Golf tournament. We also extend our profound gratitude and appreciation to our valued customers for their unwavering support that has been extended to us for years ” adde Kufazvinei.

“In hosting this event, Zimbabwe Golf Association also provides opportunity for the budding young golfers to look up and watch their heroes in battle hoping one day they would emulate them. Not only do we have an outstanding golfing event but also have activities and networking opportunities and family friendly activities while enjoying the beauty of our country,” concluded the ZGA Chairman.
