Chegutu Pirates supporters took about an hour, after the final whistle, celebrating a slim 1-0 victory over Shamva Mine in a Northern Region Division One Soccer League game played at Pfupajena Stadium on Sunday.

Unheralded Peter Bero scored the only goal when he complimented Ruben Machaya’s assist from a set piece with a powerful nod in the 14th minute.

This lukewarm match was stopped for 25minutes after halftime because Shamva goalie Majika Hassan had sustained an injury in a goal-mouth scramble

Before Majika lying and writhing in agony, the match official had legalized Pirates’ second goal convicted that the keeper was faking injury because he had fumbled to handle a harmless-looking shot but reversed his decision after assessing the severity.

Owing to the injury, Majika did not proceed with the match

After the incident, Pirates could have increased the scoreline but failed to punish an otherwise jittery and out-of-sort Shamva Mine.

Nonetheless, the slender win triggered wild celebrations from Pirates supporters they fervently believe they arevgoing to be promoted come season end.

Jubilantly, supporters jived to their new song *Tauyao kuPremier isu veDzinza*

The support, atmosphere, and attendance at Pfupajena gratified coach Emmanuel “Ras Day” Gutu who ran short of superlatives to be thankful

“Fans are our additional players. Their unwavering moral, monetary, and material support is motivational. We gratefully appreciate them for standing with the team,” Gutu said.

The coach said the league was still open.

” Chance to gain promotion are rife.”

“We are dark horses in this race and we will fight for distinction till the last game.”

Pirates now sit on third position on the NRSL log standing with 50 points while leading Mambas have 57 points and second placed Harare City have 51 points
