Henrietta Rushwaya found guilty, remanded in custody for sentencing
Three years after her arrest, Zimbabwe Miners Federation president Henrietta Rushwaya has been convicted on charges of attempting to smuggle 6kg of gold out of Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
Rushwaya was remanded in custody to November 10 for sentencing.
He co-accused, Central Intelligence Organisation operatives Stephen Tserai and Raphios Mufandauya were both acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Rushwaya was arrested while trying to board a flight to Dubai, after being found in possession of 6kg of gold worth US$333,042.28 which she tried to take through the VIP Route at RGMIA October 26, 2020,.
Rushwaya denied the charge and said that she picked the wrong bag.
The State alleged that Rushwaya failed to provide a valid export permit and presented a fake invoice and packing list from a company called Ali Japan 786 (Pvt) Limited.
